How to save money on your next vacation

The truth is, vacations can add up very quickly, but there are a few tips and tricks to help you save money—ultimately giving you some extra spending money when you’re finally on your journey.

Before you head on the road, be sure to reference some of these pointers and resources!

Before you book, use Ebates.ca to get paid to travel

One of the websites I reference before booking any travel is Ebates.ca. Yes, it’s a great website to purchase just about anything online and earn Cash Back and deals, but there’s a comprehensive travel section with connections and offers to many of your favourite travel websites from flights to hotels and car rentals.

To get started, simply create a free account, browse through the retailers (check out the over 750 partners there—not just travel!) and see if there are any additional coupons and offers. Then, Ebates.ca will send you over to the store’s website where you can book like you normally would.

As long as you start your journey on Ebates.ca, your booking is logged, you can then go on your trip, and you’ll see a Cash Back percentage added to your account. Then, every three months, you will receive a “Big Fat Cheque” (or a PayPal payment) directly into your bank account. For me, if you’re going to book travel anyways, you might as well start online and use Ebates.ca. I like to think of it as getting paid to travel!

What’s even better, if you forget to head to head to the website first, a handy Ebates Cash Back button can be added to your browser so you can earn without having to visit Ebates.ca. Simple!

Lastly, you can earn extra Cash Back by referring friends to sign up. For more, visit Ebates.ca or download the app!

Book at the right time

To Canada’s delight, they have the flexibility of the shortest window to get the best rate at 66 days ahead of a trip, meanwhile those in the Caribbean need to factor in more time at 207 ahead of a vacation.

Find the right destination

Finding a good flight deal can be a daunting task, but a group of researchers are trying to fix that.MIT Senseable City Laboratory has introduced GreatEscape.co, a search tool that looks at Skyscanner and Kiwi data to find the most affordable flights to almost every city around the world.
